Kangra, January 15
The official apathy has forced three freedom fighters to leave their native village of Chandmari for want of proper medical care as the village could not be linked to the main road by only a 1-km stretch.
Lt-Col S.N.S Gurung, VSM (retd), yesterday told The Tribune that Mr Jagat Bhadur Gurung, Mr Hosiyar Singh and Mr Babar Singh, who had contributed a lot to the freedom struggle of the country, were born at Chandmari village, near Dharamsala cantonment. The official apathy
forced them to leave their ancestral houses and shift to rental accommodations at Sidhbhari
on the outskirts of the Dharamsala town because it was difficult for them to get proper medical care for want of a 1 km road stretch between Chandmari and the main road.
Mr Gurung said the need of the hour was to provide better facilities to these great men of the country.
He suggested that a museum of the INA be constructed at Dharamsala to give inspiration to the younger generation. He said he had approached Prof Krishen Bose, Chairperson, Neta Ji Research Bureau, who assured him on the construction of an INA museum in Himachal Pradesh provided the state government came out for help.
Mr Jagat Bhadur Gurung and Mr Babar Singh were honoured
by Governor of Himachal Pradesh V.S. Kokji at a function to celebrate Vivekananda Jayanti in the auditorium of the local Polytechnic College on Thursday.
