SC declines urgent hearing on Quattrocchi
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, January 13
The Supreme Court today declined to have an urgent hearing on a petition raising the issue of government’s stand on “defreezing” of the bank accounts of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, in which the alleged Bofors payoff money was deposited.

A Bench of Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal, Mr Justice C.K. Thakker and Mr Justice R.V. Raveendran, before which a special mention was made by advocate Ajay Agrawal, who moved the petition yesterday, declined to list it for urgent hearing.

The court told Agrawal that he should let the petition be placed in the normal mentioning list and come up in the routine manner.

Agrawal, whose petition against discharge of Hinduja brothers by the Delhi High Court, had been admitted by the apex court earlier, wanted urgent hearing of his fresh petition, contending that the issue was important and involved the payment of several crores allegedly routed in the account held by Quattrocchi, which were defreezed on the efforts of the CBI earlier.
