Assembly elections: lobbying for ticket on

Five MC employees among those booked

Ludhiana Vigilance Bureau has booked 17 persons, including five employees of the local Municipal Corporation, and 12 industrialists in one of the biggest scandals of evading tax worth lakhs of rupees by using residential area near Tajpur road for commercial purposes with the help of false building plans, by-laws violation and bribing MC employees. The Vigilance Bureau withstood acute political pressure for taking action against the accused.

Judicial Magistrate K.K. Singla has sentenced Director of M/s Tri Mohan INNS Private Limited, Phillaur, Sham Mohan Sharma to one year’s rigorous imprisonment in a check bounce case. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 4,000.

1 killed, 3 hurt in accident

One person was killed and three injured in a road accident near Malerkotla Chowk today morning. One injured was admitted at Civil Hospital here while two others were admitted to a private clinic.

Medical body adopts five girls

To tell society that the female child should not be taken as a burden on the family, the Indian Medical Association adopted five female poor girl children to mark the festival of Lohri here today.

Baisakhi Bumper revenue for police welfare

The Sidhwanbet police arrested Sardara Singh of Baghian and seized 40 kg of lahan kept for distillation of illicit liquor. A case under the Excise Act has been registered.

Lohri celebrations held for girl child
Khanna, January 13
A function to celebrate Lohri for girl child was organised at Government Girls Senior Secondary School by the Khanna Vikas Club here today. Nearly 155 newly born girl babies along with their parents were present at the function.

30 jail inmates join deaddiction camp
Ludhiana, January 13
A 15-day deaddiction camp has been launched by Aas Kiran Deaddiction Centre, run by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, in Central Jail, here. The camp, which commenced on January 11, will be on till January 26.

Volleyball tournament 
Ludhiana, January 13
The third edition of the volleyball and tug-of-war tournament to be organised by the Barewal Fatehpur Awana Sports Club will be held at Barewal village near here on January 14 and 15, according to Mr Rupinder Singh Grewal and Mr Mandeep Singh Grewal, president and general secretary, respectively, of the club.

Inter-school cricket

The annual PCA Parle Inter-School Cricket Tournament (u-17 years) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) under the aegis of the Punjab Cricket Association will be conducted from January 15 to 22 here at the Bachan Singh Academy ground, Balloke village near Haibowal Khurd.
