Punjab issues notification on 85th Amendment

Chandigarh, December 15
The Punjab Government today issued a notification to enforce the 85th Amendment to the Constitution.

The notification said that the new rules to benefit the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes would be enforced from November 17, 2005. The orders would come into effect with prospectively. In future, all vacancies would be covered by this.

Meanwhile, the General Category Staff Welfare Association has condemned the notification, saying it should have been implemented after the pending judgement of the Supreme Court on the matter. The state president of the association, Mr Harbans Singh Sidhu, and its chief organiser, Mr Sham Lal, said their association would intensify its agitation against the implementation of the new rules.
