City residents experienced mild tremors late last night after a quake of moderate intensity, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in the Hindukush was recorded by the Meteorological Department.

Bird flu: samples taken from migratory birds

Long, lonely battle for justice

Strike by PU students

Students of the various BSc honours courses of Panjab University observed a strike today. The students also held a candle light march in the university in the evening. The students abstained from classes to support over 10 students who are protesting against not being given a special chance to clear their first year exam.

No extension to private schools

The Chandigarh Administration has refused to give another one-year extension to private schools running in residential areas of the city, sources said here today. The schools had already been given three extensions.

Transit remand for Brandy

Himmat, alias Brandy, the main accused in the murder of Sukhvinder Singh, the Quark engineer who was shot dead on December 4 in Mohali, was taken by the Patiala police on transit remand. SHO Zirakpur asked for his remand from a Kharar court today to find out more details in the case registered against brandy by the police there.

Strike call by medical reps

In an emergency meeting of the state working committee of the Punjab and Chandigarh Medical and Sales Representatives’ Union, it was decided that medical representatives of all companies in Punjab and Chandigarh would observe three-days strike from December 14 to 16 on a call of their national federation FMRAI.
