Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 7
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that his government was not indulging in witch-hunting as the development work and establishing law and order in the state was his priority.

Asked about Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav’s demand that the trial for fodder scam cases be shifted from Bihar, Mr Kumar, who arrived here for a three-day visit, told newspersons that his government has no intention to harass anyone.

“We will neither harass anyone nor save anyone. Judiciary is independent and it will do its work independently. I will not say anything on it,” he said.

Mr Kumar, who has come to the capital for the first time after assuming charge of Bihar, said he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia demanding more funds for the state to develop its infrastructure.

The Chief Minister said that he would meet Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to take up the problems of poor farmers in the state.

He said to improve law and order situation in Bihar more police personnel would be appointed. He said he would urge the Central Government to allocate more central paramilitary forces for the state. He had already spoken to the Home Minister in this regard on telephone and even the official level talks were held.

Mr Kumar said his government was working to bring transparency in the governance. The Chief Minister said that he was reviewing the work of various departments. “The atmosphere is improving in the state so that people can work effectively. We will work for the people,” he added.

He is meeting JD (U) leader George Fernandes, who is admitted in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, to inquire about his health.
