Mumbai, November 26
The Congress is wooing Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s nephew Raj Thackeray.

Addressing a press conference here, Shiv Sainik-turned-Congress man Sanjay Nirupam said Raj was being wooed to join the Congress. Nirupam is a former confidant of Raj Thackeray and one-time editor of party mouthpiece Saamna.

“We have not sent a formal invitation to Raj. But we want to convey the message to him that he is not alone in his hour of crisis,” Nirupam said. Raj Thackeray himself added to the speculation when his secretary refused to discount reports that he was planning to quit the Shiv Sena.

Raj’s aides indicated that their leader would clarify his stand “in a day or two”. Raj Thackeray is sulking in Nasik even as party leaders in Mumbai are planning their strategy following the defeat at Malvan.
