Police goes berserk, ‘kills’ boy for jumping naka
Tribune News Service

Jammu, October 28
A young boy was shot dead and another critically wounded as a police party shot at them for allegedly jumping a naka on a scooter at Domana today.

The deceased has been identified as Nishu Sharma, a resident of Roop Nagar Colony here. The critically injured boy has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Nagbani.

The incident has triggered violent protests by residents of the Domana township on the outskirts of the city. The residents burnt a truck of the police and also pushed the Maruti Gypsy of the Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Mr Basant Kumar, who they alleged, had ordered his men to open fire on the boys.

The police fired teargas shells and resorted to lathi-charge on an angry mob that tried to attack the police station at Domana.

The furious mob blocked the Jammu-Akhnoor highway and police reinforcements were rushed from here to handle the situation.

Doctors said the police had fired at the boys directly on the chest. Intestines, liver and other organs of Nishu had popped out of the wounds that he suffered in the firing. The other boy had wounds in his chest.

On the other hand, the police claimed that the boys, who were not wearing helmets, asked to stop at a police naka, but they accelerated the scooter and tried to escape.

Meanwhile, no senior officer of the police had reached the spot till late in the afternoon.
