Head Constable held for sodomy attempt

A Head Constable, Varinder Singh, posted at Old Police Lines here, allegedly tried to sodomise a 10-year-old boy in his room this evening. The incident comes close on the heels to an attempt to sodomise a 14-year-old boy by the CIA staff recently.

Cricketers sweat out before tie

As the countdown to the India-Sri Lanka One-Day match draws to a close, the South Asian neighbours sweated out on the nets at the PCA stadium here. While thousands of cricket fans eagerly await the One-Day tie, scheduled for tomorrow, many tried their luck today to see the men practice at the ground.

Court order fails to ensure free flow of traffic

Even though the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the Chandigarh Police to ensure the free flow of traffic during the dharnas and rallies organised in the city throughout the year, it has failed to comply with the directions, apparently.

Meeting on Chandigarh deferred

The meeting of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs for Chandigarh was deferred in New Delhi today, reliable sources said. The meeting on affairs pertaining to the City Beautiful is now scheduled for November 8.

Mauli Jagran residents block railway line

Traffic on the Chandigarh- Ambala railway line was disrupted for over 40 minutes when residents of Vikas Nagar and Mauli Jagran blocked the line in protest against the move of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to seal certain houses for violating the building bylaws.

Rare land link to re-open for Pak delegation

Forty years after the land link between India and Pakistan in southern Rajasthan was snapped following a war between the two neighbours, the Munabao-Khokhrapar road will be reopened next month to allow a delegation of Pakistan Rangers to cross over to India for official talks with the Border Security Force.

3-yr-old dies of head injury

A three-year-old boy, who suffered head injury after he fell on road this afternoon in Sector 38, later succumbed to his injuries at the PGI. According to information, Jaskirat, a student of Ankur School on the Panjab University campus, alighted from the school bus in Sector 38.

Two held for raping minor

Two persons have been arrested by the police here today on the charges of abduction, rape and criminal intimidation. A minor girl, living in Phase VII here, was allegedly raped by the two youths.

Mother of two ends life
Chandigarh, October 27
A 25-year-old mother of two children ended her life by allegedly hanging herself at her Madrasi Colony residence in Bapu Dham Colony, here today. The exact reason behind the extreme step is not known.

Panjab University festival gets off to youthful start

The Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival and Heritage Festival started today at Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, in most vibrant and spirited fervour. The youth festival was inaugurated by Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, MP, Chandigarh. Thirteen colleges from the city and from the Ferozepur Zone, which covers the areas of Fazilka, Feropzepore, Abohar and around are participating in the three-day festival.
