Situation in Mau improves
Tribune News Service

Lucknow, October 19
With women and children being allowed for two hours today to make daily purchases, the situation in Mau is fast returning to normal. The relaxation was, however, not described as curfew relaxation. According to district officials, the decision to relax the curfew will be taken after consulting the peace committee later in the night.

Meanwhile, no incident of violence was reported for the third consecutive day today.

Long lines of burqa-clad women and children were seen at shops between 10 am and 12 noon. Shops ran out of basic necessities and women complained of medicines not being available during curfew causing hardship to chronic patients.

While a total number of 350 persons have been arrested for inciting violence, none of the major persons named in the FIRs, including Mukhtar Ansari, have been arrested. Ansari is reportedly demanding a CBI probe into the incident.
