Kapil Sibal takes to fiction
Swati Chaturvedi

New Delhi, October 16
Another insider is now threatening to write the ultimate no holds barred political satire. In a first serving, minister and legal eagle Kapil Sibal says he has started writing three books one of which will be a fictional “political satire’’.

Mr Sibal who has earlier taken on fellow lawyer BJP’s Arun Jaitley in courts, in Parliament and other big fights will now give him and other political colleagues an “epic’’ run for their money. Mr Sibal has certainly struck a rich vein with a compelling cast of characters which he says ``will be set in the present certainly the time I have been an observer and a participant.’’

While his other two books will certainly be cerebral the satire will create waves, setting of the ultimate guessing games with controversy being guaranteed. Mr Sibal is aware of this. And prepared. “I shall certainly be honest.’’ he says with a shrug. The nonchalance is warranted Indian politicians are not known for their sense of humour. And with the kind of scandals and crisis of ideology engulfing well known leaders it will be rich pickings for a unsparing author.

Mr Sibal has a prodigious memory and his friends say a great sense of humour. Essential ingredients to whip up a great laugh riot. But, politics in India is comedy mostly unintentional by other means. A cast of characters led by his Cabinet colleague, Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar Governor Buta Singh will give Mr Sibal food for thought.

He is chary about revealing his exact plans. “I have started writing the book. Lets see when I finish.’’ he says. The other famous Congressman who wrote a novel was former Prime Minister, Narasimha Rao who wrote The Insider.

Primary Colours by anonymous on the tumultuous Clinton era earned the best-seller status and huge controversy as to the authorship and the reality of content. Will Mr Sibal’s book make it look like a Teddy bear’s picnic? Ask and the author only gives his trademark grin.
