In a rebuff to the UPA Government, the Supreme Court today quashed the Presidential order dissolving the Bihar Assembly based on Governor Buta Singh’s controversial reports.

NDA hails SC decision on Bihar
New Delhi, October 7
Describing the Supreme Court verdict on the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly as a “victory for constitutionalism”, the BJP-led NDA today trained its guns on the Centre and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accusing him of “misleading” the country on the issue and demanded the immediate recall of Governor Buta Singh.

Govt view after studying detailed SC judgement
New Delhi, October 7
Even though the Supreme Court’s interim order by a majority opinion has declared as “unconstitutional” the dissolution of the Bihar Legislative Assembly through a proclamation earlier this year on May 23, the Manmohan Singh government is expected to take a final view only after the five-judge constitutional bench gives the “detailed reasons later”.

In a significant development, Left parties today called for a wider debate on the role of Governors and the misuse of Article 356 on a day when the Supreme Court held the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly as "unconstitutional."

The two-day conclave of Congress Chief Ministers was today completely overshadowed by the Supreme Court’s order holding the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly as “unconstitutional.”
