Mystery of Daya Ram’s family resolved Amritsar, September 19 Meanwhile, another family from Jagdishpur village in Sidharthnagar district (UP) also met him today and presented evidence of kinship. Daya Ram was released by the Pakistan Government along with hundreds of other Indian prisoners on September 12. Mr Raja Ram of Jagdishpur, claiming to be the brother of Daya Ram, produced his election photo-identity card as evidence, which doctors found to closely resemble Daya Ram. The voter identity card was prepared in 1995. Mr Raja Ram was accompanied by his cousin Khaderu Yadav. They said they recognised Daya Ram after viewing him on a news channel. However, being small farmers, they did not have enough money to travel to this part of the country to
take him back home. Hence, the government sent its officials to take him back. Daya Ram is the second among five brothers. Mr Raja Ram said his two eldest brothers, including Daya Ram, could not marry due to poverty. According to him, Daya Ram lost his equilibrium about eight years back and left the house three years back. Doctors attending to Daya Ram said he was not in a condition to travel. He even did not recognise Mr Raja Ram and Mr Khaderu Yadav. Dr B.L. Goyal said as per the Mental Health act, 1987, they released the patient on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). |
