NDA to move motion against Lalu’s claim
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 22
The NDA today decided to move an adjournment motion tomorrow against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s statement that state Governor was his nominee as its notices of adjournment motions on the conduct of Bihar Governor Buta Singh were rejected by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

The NDA, which charged Mr Buta Singh with doing everything at the behest of Mr Yadav, also decided to mount pressure on the recall of the Bihar Governor.

It alleged that under Mr Buta Singh’s governorship, free and fair elections could not be held in Bihar.

“We had given notices for an adjournment motion against the Governor’s recommendation to the Railway Minister for the transfer of a railway official but the Speaker said the conduct of Governors cannot be discussed in the House. Now we will be giving notice on Prasad’s public assertions that Buta Singh is his nominee”, BJP parliamentary party spokesman V.K. Malhotra told newspersons here.

The adjournment motion is likely to be moved by JD(U) leaders George Fernandes, Nitish Kumar and Prabhu Nath Singh and BJP leaders V.K. Malhotra, Nitish Kumar and Santosh Gangwar.

Stating that Mr Lalu’s remarks made to a television channel were highly objectionable, Mr Malhotra said: “Under Article 155 of the Constitution, the President appoints the Governor by warrant under his hand and seal. He is aided and advised by the Union Council of Ministers and not one minister”.

Pointing out that RJD was one of the major parties which would be contesting the coming Assembly poll, he charged Buta Singh with “doing everything at Lalu’s behest”.

The NDA MPs would also be giving separate notices for discussion on the issue after the suspension of question hour and zero hour, Mr Malhotra said.

On the women’s reservation Bill, Mr Malhotra said while the Congress took a “blank cheque” from the BJP on the issue, “they are not taking a decision themselves. First let the government make up its mind. If they are sincere, they can get it passed”.
