Two killed in UP panchayat elections

Lucknow, August 20
Amdist sporadic violence that left two persons dead and 36 injured, an estimated 80 per cent voters exercised their franchise under tight security for the second phase of panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh today.

One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between supporters of rival candidates at Taprana village in Muzaffarnagar district, the police said.

Asst director of ‘Bunty aur Babli’ held

Mumbai, August 20
Ankur Bipin Devani (20), assistant director of film ‘’Bunty aur Babli’’, was arrested last night for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to kidnap a 19-year-old collegian for extortion.

Devani, according to the police, had hired an autorickshaw driver to kidnap the teenaged girl to extort money from her parents.

The autorickshaw driver was given an advance of Rs 25,000 with an assurance of Rs 30 lakh later. However, he informed the police that laid a trap and apprehended the director. — UNI
