In the wake of the Independence Day function on August 15, the traffic wing of the Chandigarh police has imposed restrictions on traffic flow and has planned diversions from certain roads near the Parade Ground, Sector 17, and near Punjab Raj Bhavan.

A scooterist today snatched a mobile phone from a youth in Sector 41. In another incident, gold ornaments were stolen from a house. Besides this a person was caught red-handed while stealing a music system from a house in Burial, last night.

Offender held
Chandigarh, August 12
The local police today arrested a proclaimed offender, Arvinder Pal Singh. Sources in the police said the accused a resident of Mukerian in Hoshiarpur district, was declared PO in February 5, 2005.

PU directed to release salaries

Chandigarh, August 12
The High Court Bench of Mr Justice S.S. Nijjar and Ms Justice Nirmal Yadav on Friday directed Panjab University, Chandigarh, to release the salaries of the faculty who were aged between 60 and 62 years till further orders regardless of whether there is a budgetary provision for the same or not.

Tehelka case: arrest warrants for Mathews
Chandigarh, August 12
The Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate in New Delhi, Mr Vinod Kumar, today issued arrest warrants to apprehend Mathews Samuel, the prime prosecution witness in the General Court Martial(GCM) trying Brig Iqbal Singh in the Tehelka case.

Plays raise moral questions

Sangeet honoured
Chandigarh, August 12
City-based architect Sangeet Sharma has been awarded a commendation certificate by the Indian Buildings Congress, New Delhi, for his architecture of boy’s hostel at Mohali. The hostel is a part of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research.

70 donate blood
Chandigarh, August 12
As many as 70 volunteers donated blood at a camp organised by the Reliance Infocom (Punjab Circle) at its local office in Sector 9 here today. The camp was organised in collaboration with the PGI. Mr Himanshu Kabania, CEO of Reliance Infocom (Punjab Circle), was the first donor.

Hutch now in Punjabi

Hutch today announced the launch of content on the voice response platform in Punjabi for subscribers in Punjab. The regional content will include caller tunes, ringtones, jokes, horoscope and news in Punjabi and a host of other offerings which will be launched shortly.

Milk samples to be tested

The UT Health Department has launched a survey to gauge the quality of milk supplied by milkmen. More than 200 samples will be collected and tested for quality. Dr Inderjeet Kaur Walia, the Director of Health Services, told Tribune here today.

Landing pit for Sector 7 Sports Complex

A world-class landing pit is soon coming up at the Gymnasium Hall of Sector 7 Sports Complex. The pit will be made of crossed layers of foam with air tunnels, stabilisation netting and loose foam blocks coupled with a safe high-density padding to conform to the international standards.

Prerak defeats Vikas in badminton tourney
Panchkula, August 12
Prerak Sharma, a student of Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula, defeated Vikas in under-16 singles section of the District Badminton Championships which began at Sports Complex, Sector 3, today. Prerak won by 15-13,15-8.
