Terrorist Bheora held in Jammu? Chandigarh, July 29 Though the Punjab Police was tight-lipped about the incident, official sources said Bheora was nabbed from Jammu tonight. A senior police officer said though they had got the information in this regard, they wanted to corroborate it before officially confirming the identity of the man arrested. Bheora, along with Jagtar Singh Hawara, is an accused in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, who was killed outside the Punjab Secretariat in August, 1995. Following a tip-off from the Jammu police, a team of the Punjab Police also raided Bheora village, near Ropar. Another team of the Punjab Police was dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir to ascertain the identity of the person nabbed by the police there, sources in the Punjab Police said while confirming the
development to The Tribune late tonight. The J&K Police was in coordination with the Punjab Police and intelligence agencies. Both Hawara and Bheora, along with two others, had escaped after digging a tunnel from the high-security Burail Jail in Chandigarh on January 21, 2004. The two others, Jagtar Singh Tara and Devi Singh, are still at large. Sources in the police said it had been keeping a watch on a few mobile phones during the past few days. Calls from these mobile phones were being made to suspicious numbers and one was found to be operating from a town near Ludhiana. Eight years ago, Bheora had been arrested from Jammu for his involvement in the Beant Singh assassination case.
