Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the G-4 solidarity on the question of United Nations reforms and expansion of the Security Council had made a difference to the process and this grouping of India, Brazil, Germany and Japan would maintain this.

London toll rises to 50; timers set off blasts
London, July 8
The police today launched a massive hunt for those responsible for killing over 50 people and injuring 700 in the bloodiest terror attack in London since World War II, saying the blasts bore “all the hallmarks” of the Al-Qaida and expressed “implacable resolve” to track down the perpetrators.

Calls made from terrorists’ cellphones traced
Lucknow, July 8
A major breakthrough has been made in the probe into the terrorist attack at Ayodhya with the printout of the mobile phones being carried by one of the terrorist being made available, claimed ADG (Law and Order), A Palanivel on Friday evening.

Ayodhya security in for overhaul
New Delhi, July 8
In the wake of Tuesday’s terror attack in the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid complex, the CRPF has suggested “overhaul” of security in and around the disputed structure, without increasing the number of personnel deployed there. (Details on Nation page)


Hundreds of acres submerged in Sirsa
Sirsa, July 8
Hundreds of acres of agriculture land was submerged near Sikanderpur village, near here, after the Rangoi nullah developed cracks. Cotton and paddy crops were damaged in over 200 acres as the authorities failed to take timely action. The incident took place this morning on the Hisar Road, which affected Sikanderpur and Bajekan village.

G-8 to check global warming, but no targets

Majithia panel cuts fee of medical, dental colleges
Chandigarh, July 8
The Fee Fixation Committee of the Department of Medical Education has recommended drastic changes in the fee structure of medical, dental and homoeopathic colleges in Punjab. The committee has also recommended an interim fee for nursing courses. The recommendations are mandatory and applicable to all privately run medical institutions in the state.
