Ferry carrying flood-hit people sinks, 30 feared dead

Banda, July 5
At least 30 persons were feared drowned when a steamer carrying them from flood-affected Kanwara village in the district sunk in Kane river, near Brahmadera, tonight.

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishambhar Prasad Nishhad informed UNI over phone that the ill-fated steamer, deployed in rescue operations, was carrying people of the flood-affected village to a safer place when it sunk due to an engine failure.

There were 31 persons on the board — including four PAC constables.

He said a PAC constable managed to swim to safety and informed about the mishap. — UNI
