New Delhi, July 5
Although officially the Centre maintained that there was no security lapse and commended the efforts of the security personnel in repulsing the terror attack, sources in the Home Ministry indicated that the Centre along with the state government would soon take a “re-look” on the entire security arrangements at the Ayodhya temple complex.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Chief A K Sinha, who met Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Home Secretary V K Duggal, before leaving for Ayodhya this evening, along with two other senior CRPF officers, is understood to have been asked to report back on any possible security lapse and the possible steps to pre-empt any such attacks in the future.

Sources said though the Home Minister and Mr Duggal were appreciative of the grit shown by the CRPF personnel in repulsing the terrorist attack and eliminating all the six attackers, they were concerned over the manner in which the attackers came so close to the sanctum sanctorum despite a high-level of security in Ayodhya.

At present, five Companies of the CRPF, including One Mahila Company are deployed for the security of the Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid Complex in Ayodhya in the “inner cordon”, whereas the outer cordon is being guarded by Uttar Pradesh Police and PAC.

Besides, a company of Quick Reaction Team, mounted on vehicles maintain vigil in the “inner cordon”.

Meanwhile, the Centre is also likely to ask the Uttar Pradesh government to explain about the “intelligence” failure, sources said.

As acknowledged by Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal himself, there was “quite a specific” intelligence input about possible terror attacks on vital installations and places of worship across the country.

Subsequently, Mr Duggal himself held meetings with Chief Secretaries and DGPs of various states and asked them to take adequate steps to pre-empt any such attacks.

Asked whether any Central team will be sent to probe the incident, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil told newspersons that “one of my colleagues would soon visit Ayodhya.”
