Minister escapes bid on life; 10 killed in J&K Srinagar, July 3 According to police sources, Peerzada, who is also the state PCC President, accompanied by some of his ministerial and party colleagues was returning to Srinagar from Tujjar Sharief township, near Sopore, about 50 km north of here, this afternoon. Partial damage was caused to the vehicle and the culvert on the road connecting Tujjar Sharief with Sopore. Five police personnel travelling in the vehicle ahead of the minister’s cavalcade were injured. The minister’s vehicle was about 200 yards away from the culvert when the explosion took place, the police sources said. Elsewhere at least 10 persons, including seven militants, were killed in separate incidents, while a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered during search operations in Jammu and Kashmir since yesterday. The police here said that three militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Dudu Marhama in the Beijbehara area of Anantnag district today. Two militants of Jamait-ul-Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Kiloora, Shopian in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, today. They were identified as Nadeem Akhtar from Pakistan, and Jamshed Ahmad Ganai, a local militant. Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Panzla in Baramula district today. Militants kidnapped and killed a baker, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, in the Tral area of Pulwama district last night. Suspected militants killed a woman, Zohra Begum, wife of Abdul Rashid of Daram Tanta village in Doda district. |
