The accused, Sarabjeet Kaur, a resident of Ashok Vihar Colony near Maqsudan, was operating from an accommodation in Defence Colony. The Tribune had highlighted the racket and the modus operandi that she had adopted for duping the candidates. The woman had reportedly contacted many candidates in Chandigarh and Pathankot and had been giving an advertisement about the same in varied media.

DSP Harkamal said during interrogation the accused revealed that she was working in connivance with one Delhi-based Deepak who had claimed that he could get some ranks assured especially for candidates applying through SC and ST categories. He said the woman was being booked by the district police for the fourth time as she had similar cases registered against her for helping some students in preparing fake certificates.

The DSP said the police had also recovered some fake certificates from her possession. A case under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC had been registered, he added.
