Nine
jawans killed, 19 hurt in
Srinagar blast
Srinagar, June 24
At least nine Army personnel were
killed and 19 injured when their bus was blown up due to a car blast
caused by militants near the Nishat tourist spot here this afternoon.
Three Army personnel died on the spot and three succumbed to their
injuries in hospital.

The bus hired by the Army to carry its troops, which was ripped apart in a car bomb attack at Nishat Mughal Gardens in Srinagar on Friday.

India today rejected Pakistan
Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed's application for travelling to
Jammu and Kashmir on June 30 by the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar bus service
but did not assign any specific reason for its prompt decision announced
24 hours after it received Mr Ahmed's request.

Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Mr Nicholas Burns, today
said that India fitted the bill for permanent membership of the United
Nations Security Council but whether Washington will accord a
Japan-type support to New Delhi would be decided by none other than
President George Bush and Mr Bush had still not made up his mind.
