7 booked for child marriage

Another case of child marriage has come to light in Karnal district. The police has arrested four persons in this regard. This is the 11th such case in the district in which the police has initiated action during the current year.

According to the information, 12-year-old Kaushalya, daughter of Subash Kumar of Nigdu, was married to 35-year-old Bittu also a resident of Nigdu, last week.

Interestingly, the father of the girl was kept in dark by his wife Dilasho Devi about the marriage. When he came to know about it, he informed the local police who booked seven persons who include his wife, Bittu, Hukam Singh, Simla Devi, Madan Lal, Sulochana and Sanju.

A case has been registered. Later, the police managed to arrest Bittu, Dilasho Devi. mediators Hukam Singh and Madam Lal.

Rest of them still eluding arrest, said police sources. Subash, who works in Uttar Pradesh, stated that the marriage ceremony was finalised by his wife at the instance of her brother after she came to visit her family.
