INAUGURATED: Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, PWD (B and R) Minister, Punjab, on Saturday inaugurated the renovated Batala-Chowk Mehta road. Mr Bajwa said Rs 4.50 crore would be spent on strengthening the road leading to Beas and the work would be completed in three months.

RESENTMENT: Resentment prevails among doctors of Radha Krishan Colony, Batala, who have been served notices by the Improvement Trust, Batala, to close down their hospitals and clinics. The government has asked them to pay Rs 2000 per sq yards to allow them to continue practice.

BRAHMIN SABHA: The following were elected unanimously office-bearers of Sirhind unit of the Brahmin Sabha in a meeting held here today. President-Mr Sanjeev Sharma; senior vice president-Mr Gopal Bhardwaj; vice president-Dr Ranjeet Sharma; secretary general-Mr. Varinder Rattan; secretaries-Mr Rao Varinder Joshi and Mr Rajinder Kaplish; cashier-Mr Sanjay Angrish. The sabha urged the Chief Minister to restore the holiday on Parshu Ram Jyanti.

SEMINAR: A seminar was organised by the Buddha Vihar Trust at Sofi village near here on Sunday. Mr Chaman Chahal, Chairman of the Buddhist and Ambedkarites’ Federation, UK, addressed it and spoke about the philosophy of Lord Buddha.

FREEDOM FIGHTER: Freedom fighter Master Milkhi Ram died at the age of 90 after a prolonged illness here on Saturday evening. Master Milkhi Ram was jailed by the British government the first time when he was 13 years- old. After Independence he was nominated MLC thrice in 1956, 1958 and for six years from 1960.

ENVIRONMENT DAY: Sixtytwo village panchayats of the district from villages situated near the banks of Kali Bein have passed a resolution to stop the discharge of sewage in the Bein here on Sunday. Motivating the panchayats in this regard, the district administration held a function on the occasion of World Environment Day.

ARM CUT: An arm of Mrs Asha Devi (28) of Shiv Puri Mohalla got chopped on Monday while she was walking along the rail track. Since a strong duststorm was blowing her sari got entangled in a the a running train. Her arm got sucked in and chopped off. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital here for treatment.

SCUFFLE: Following a scuffle over irrigation of their respective fields with canal water between two factions at Patuhera village, 12 km from here, on Sunday, at least six members of the warring factions were injured. One faction comprised Ram Avtar and others, while the other was headed by Dharambir, son of Hari Singh Sharma. The Kasaula police has registered a case of rioting and causing hurt.

WARNED: Elders of Salhawas, Jamalpur, Birhor, Akeri, Mundhara and various other villages of Kosli subdivision in Rewari district have warned that if all 19 discontinued buses of the Rohtak and Jhajjar depots of the Haryana Roadways were not immediately restarted on the Rohtak-Kosli and Jhajjar-Kosli routes, they would be compelled to resort to direct action leading to the blockade of vehicular traffic on the Kosli-Rohtak and Kosli-Jhajjar roads.

CHANNEL: A cemented channel will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3.97 crore for the proper discharge of rainwater of Rewari. This was stated by Mr G. Madhvan, Financial Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, while addressing a meeting of district officials to review the flood protection measures in the district here on Sunday.

ASSAULTED: A youth, Vikas, sustained multiple knife injuries when he was allegedly assaulted by three youths in the Arya Nagar area on Sunday. The alleged assailants identified as Sonu, Sahaukat and Sadmuddin, are at large.
