NC corporator shot dead

Srinagar, June 3
A National Conference (NC) corporator was shot dead this morning in downtown Srinagar by suspected militants, official sources said here.

Militants killed Abdul Hamid Bala Wasriat, who was recently elected to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, when he was passing through the Bhagwanpora locality of the Baba Demb area of the city at around 10:30 a.m., they said.

Bala’s father Ghulam Mohammad, who was also affiliated with the National Conference, was killed by militants a few years ago.

Militants have killed several corporators and councillors across the Kashmir valley since the elections to local bodies were held earlier this year.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet. — PTI
