Ayub Khan bought Indian war plan, claims son

Islamabad, May 30
Pakistan’s former President Ayub Khan bought an Indian secret plan to attack the country in 1965 from an Indian Army Brigadier for only Rs 20,000, his son Gohar Ayub Khan claimed in an interview to The News daily published today.

The Indian Brigadier, according to Gohar, needed the money for his wife, who wanted to buy equipment for fulfilling her hobby of canning fruits and vegetables. Pakistani agents active in New Delhi exploited this passion of the Brigadier’s wife and bought the plan.

When asked about the name of Indian Army Brigadier, Gohar said he would give clear indications about this in his forthcoming autobiography. However, he said the Brigadier was still alive.

Gohar said Ayub Khan was preparing the Pakistan Army to fight a war with India to get Kashmir “liberated” and for this purpose he followed a long-term policy and deputed his intelligence network active in New Delhi to get India’s “war plan”.

According to Gohar, the Pakistan army launched its attack at Chamb Jorian. However, the Pakistani troops could not move ahead as one of their tanks hit the bank of the river Beas brigade which they were crossing. The bridge collapsed and blocked their advance. This greatly disappointed Ayub. — PTI
