PM says no to free power Dedicates 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri project to nation Jhakri, May 28
Expressing concern over the growing power shortage in the country, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, today said the time had come to declare in “no uncertain terms” that free power to farmers was a major impediment, hampering the efforts to enhance power generation.

Provident Fund Board today recommended 9.5 per cent
interest to nearly four crore EPF subscribers for
2004-05 by withdrawing Rs 716 crore from Special
Reserve Fund to bridge the deficit.

Blasts at Dal Lake,

Defying Deputy
Commissioner’s orders, a few supervisors of anganwadi
centres were caught on camera replacing rotten eatables
at an anganwadi centre of Siwia village last evening.
This despite the fact that the Deputy Commissioner asked
the officials concerned yesterday only to take 15
samples of eatables from each block.

that Gulmarg was developing as “an
international destination for tourists”, the
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti
Mohammad Sayeed, today inaugurated the second
phase of the Gulmarg Gondola cable car
project.
Cable cars move between the towers after the launch of the second phase of Kashmir’s cable car in Aphanwat, 60 km west of Srinagar, on Saturday.
