truce to continue Islamabad,

Agreeing to
maintaining the 18-month-old ceasefire on Siachen Glacier,
India and Pakistan today decided to meet yet again for
talks aimed at demilitarising the world’s highest
battlefield. In deliberations at the Defence Secretary
level, both neighbours — seeking normalisation of
relations after more than 50 years of animus — described
the two-day talks held at the Pak Defence Ministry in
Rawalpindi as “frank and constructive with a view to
taking the process forward”.

Vohra
updates Patil on J&K New

In the backdrop
of Kashmiri separatist leaders preparing to travel
to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), government’s
interlocutor on Kashmir N.N. Vohra today called on
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and briefed him on
the overall situation in Kashmir.

set to be re-elected Cong chief New

Ms Sonia Gandhi
is set to be declared elected as Congress President
for another consecutive term as the deadline for
filing nominations ended today with no challenge to
her candidature. Nearly 100 sets of nominations had
been made in favour of Ms Gandhi by the party units
in various states. The formal announcement about her
re-election will be made tomorrow. AICC Central
Election Authority Chairman Oscar Fernandes said the
scrutiny of nominations would take place tomorrow
morning after which Ms Gandhi would be declared
elected unopposed.

killed in Pak shrine blast Islamabad,
May 27
Twentyfive persons
were killed and more than 50 injured today in a
suspected suicide bombing at a Sufi shrine near the
Pakistani capital where hundreds of devotees had
gathered for the Friday prayers as well as to celebrate
an annual religious festival.

Permanent
residential status must for allotting oil dealership: SC New Delhi,

Dealing with the
question of the eligibility for allotment of oil and LPG
dealerships under the employment scheme of the
government, the Supreme Court has ruled that the
allottee should be a permanent resident of a particular
district where the allotment is intended to be made to
the unemployed persons.

to anganwadis stopped DC
asks supplier to replace entire stock Bathinda,

Taking
a serious notice of a report in The
Tribune today on the quality of eatables
supplied to the anganwadis, the Deputy
Commissioner, Mr Rahul Bhandari, has
stopped the supply of the eatables till
their good quality is ensured. He has
also directed the supplier to replace
the entire stock within a week. Talking
to The Tribune, the Deputy Commissioner
said he had also asked his BDOs, SDMs,
and CDPOs to collect 15 samples of
eatables from each block on a random
basis by tomorrow evening.
