Abohar
ARRESTED: Daya Rani and her son Kundan Lal Soni were arrested by the Sadulshehar police for allegedly selling smack here on Monday. Sources said the police recovered 418 gm of opium and 52 gm of smack from them. Both were arrested under Sections 8/18 and 8/21 of the NDPS Act.

FOUR HELD: Four persons have been booked by the Sadar police under the Cow Slaughter Act. Sheesh Pal, a son of Mangla Ram, of Gobindgarh village, 5 km from here, complained to the police that three cows, including one owned by him, had been poisoned to death. Investigation indicated that skin dealers, Tara Chand and Ramji Lal, had allegedly joined hands with Vijay Kumar and Mattu of the Zohri Mandir road here in lifting dead animals. The Sadar police confirmed that Tara Chand and Ramji Lal were arrested on Tuesday evening.

AWARENESS RALLY: The Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) will hold a public awareness rally on Anti-Tobacco Day falling. Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala, president, AVM, said here on Tuesday that NGOs, municipal corporation and people should work together to create public awareness against the ill effects of tobacco.

JOINED: Mr Ashwani Kapoor has joined as DSP, Batala police district in place of Mr Narinder Bedi who has been transferred to Amritsar according to Dr Jatinder Kumar Jain, chief of Batala police district. He said Inspector Kirpal Singh had joined as in charge of Batala city police station in place of Mr Gurmej Singh.

RESENTMENT: Resentment prevails among residents of the city against the un-announced power cuts. When contacted Mr G.S. Dhanju, Executive Engineer, PSEB, Batala, on Tuesday said that they were following the orders of their headquarters at Patiala.

SUMMER CAMP: As many as 51 children in the 6-16 age group, from the local military station attended the Art Excel classes as a part of summer camp from May 20 to May 22. According to a press release on Tuesday, the next session of the summer camp had been planned from May 24 to June 7 in two parts for which about 517 students had volunteered to participate.

ORGANISED: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Krishan Kumar, with a view to redressing grievances of people organised a weekly ‘Jan Sampark Divas’ here at Dilbagh Hall on Tuesday. Grievances regarding lack of drinking water facility, harassment by the police, noise pollution, encroachments on the panchayat land etc were put forth.

SATSANG: The local Osho Varindavan Peeth will organise a ‘satsang’ with Osho Siddharth here at Kamal Banquet Hall on Monday, informed Mr G.S. Toor here on Tuesday.

FIVE INJURED: Narinder Bawa, his wife, Reshma, and their Child were injured when their scooter and a tractor-trailer were involved in a collision on the Phagwara-Dosanjh road, near Urban Estate on Wednesday. In another accident, two brothers, Karu Malhotra and Varun Malhotra, were injured when their motor cycle skidded on the GT Road, near Chaheru.

WORKSHOP: The extension division of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi is organising a one-month free training workshop for those who are interested in learning theatre acting from June 3 to July 3 at Pash Library, Karnal. Mr Rajiv Ranjan, in-charge of Pash Library said those wishing to join the workshop and are between the age group of 18 to 30 may contact the officials concerned in the library on Monday for trials.

TWO KILLED: Two persons, a camel cart driver and a Qualis driver, died in two separate road accidents on Tuesday. Chander Singh Yadav, driver of a cart, died on the spot when his camel cart was hit by a Mahindra van on the Rewari-Narnaul road near Dhamlawas village. Pawan Kumar of Parsoli village died when a trailer hit his Qualis.

Sonepat
REINSTATED: The Director of Higher Education, Haryana, has reinstated Dr Daryao Singh, a lecturer of CRA College, Sonepat, with immediate effect. According to a report, Dr Singh was placed under suspension about nine months ago on various charges, including the use of abusing language against the woman Principal.

TWO ASSAULTED: Two factory workers, Arvind and Chand, sustained multiple knife injuries when they were assaulted with by a group of workers of the same factory at Kundli village, about 25 km from here, on Wednesday.

Bilaspur
RECOVERED: The police on Monday intercepted a Maruti van at Suharghat and recovered 192 bottles of liquor which were being transported without a permit. The driver of the van has been arrested and a case under HP Excise Act registered.

RELEASED: The HP Forests, Youth Services and Sports Minister, Mr Ramlal Thakur, on Monday released an audio-cassette and a CD ‘‘Virasat’’ comprising nine folk songs of Himachal sung by Veena Parmar and Kamar Singh.

Kangra
VISITED: Lt Gen B S Thakur, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, visited the Headquarters of 9 Corps at Yol on Tuesday. The Corps was established on April 27 in the Kangra valley. He was received at the helipad by a galaxy of the army officers and was briefed about the progress of 9 Corps and related issues.

INAUGURATED: A four- day chemistry workshop was inaugurated Lt Col Kamal, SOI Education, in the Army School, Yol, on Tuesday. Mr Sandeep Marhata, a spokesperson for the Army School in a statement said 39 teachers from 18 Army schools of Northern Command were participating in the workshop.
