One-day mourning declared

New Delhi, May 25
The government declared one-day national mourning today as a mark of respect to Union Minister and veteran actor Sunil Dutt who died in Mumbai early this morning.

The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, held an emergency meeting here and condoled the untimely death of the “experienced and valued member”.

The meeting observed a two-minute silence in memory of the departed soul.

The meeting declared national mourning for the day during which the National Flag flew at half-mast throughout the country. — PTI

PM, Sonia pay last respects

Mumbai, May 25
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi along with senior Cabinet ministers arrived in Mumbai by a special flight to pay their last respects to Sunil Dutt.

Dr Manmohan Singh and Ms Gandhi were accompanied by senior Cabinet ministers Sharad Pawar, Pranab Mukherjee and Shivraj Patil. They drove straight to the Dutts’ Pali Hill residence.

Among others on the special flight were political adviser to the Congress President Ahmed Patel, Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president Gurudas Kamat, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prabha Rau and Members of Parliament Rajiv Shukla and Rahul Gandhi.
