Brother of ex-Hizb chief shot dead Srinagar, May 14 Bhat was shot at and
grievously injured by militants at around 10.30 a.m. while he was taking a stroll outside his house, DIG Srinagar range H.K. Lohia told PTI. He said Bhat succumbed to injuries while he was being shifted to a hospital. Zaffar Abdul Fateh was one of the top commanders of Hizb and key player in the failed talks between the outfit and the Centre in 2000. He had since given up arms and formed a separatist outfit Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, which was a part of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Hizbul Mujahideen had declared Zaffar a deserter and sought an account of the arms and funds given to him for running operations in the state. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. JAMMU:
Security forces busted seven hideouts of militants in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday and recovered from it a huge quantity of ammunition, Defence sources said here. Six hideouts were busted in the Khooni Nullah area of Poonch district on Saturday, they said, adding the recoveries from them included 200 kg of assorted rations, 2 kg of explosives and one timer device. From another hideout in Khanetar area of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch, the troops recovered arms. Meanwhile, four labourers were shot dead by militants in Rajouri district of the state, official sources said here. The labourers of Triyath coal mine were attacked by militants at around six in the evening in Kalakota forest area of the district.
