Moneylender, son shot at; Rs 19 lakh looted
4 motorcycle-borne youths strike near Gill Road

In one of the biggest daylight robberies in the city, four armed motor-cycle borne robbers wearing helmets shot at and seriously wounded a moneylender, his young son and a daughter and looted a bag containing about Rs 19 lakh just outside their house in Muradpura colony near Gill Road today afternoon.

Youth commits suicide

A 24-year-old youth, son of an alleged narcotics smuggler incarcerated at Central Jail here, has allegedly committed suicide by eating some poisonous substance after being beaten by relatives of a girl in Guru Arjuan Dev Nagar here last night.

Man booked for selling land twice
Jagraon, May 5
A person allegedly sold his land twice and now is facing imprisonment. According to information, Kashmir Singh of Bahadurke sold 2 kanals of land to Karnail Singh of his village in the year 2002 and received full and final payment of the sale.

PO held, remanded
Khamano, May 5
The Khamano police has arrested a proclaimed offender, Tirath Singh, who was absconding since 1999. According to the Khamano, DSP Mr Balwant Singh, Tirath Singh, a resident of Fiali village in Kapurthala district alongwith three others, had bought a Maruti car from Subhash Chander Jain, a teacher of Khamano. But they paid the money through a forged draft.

Mr Charan Singh Sarabha, general secretary of Government School Teachers’ Union, Punjab, in a press note today claimed that certain government schools had been handed over to private organisations in the Machiwara block of this district.
