Fruit and vegetable arhtiyas observe bandh, vegetable prices rise

Fruit and vegetable wholesale markets here remained closed today as commission agents observed bandh in protest against the government’s decision of privatisation of recovery of market fee by the Mandi board.

Punjab govt criticised for not acting against police officers

The International Human Rights Organisation has criticised the Captain Amarinder Singh government for not taking action against the police officers, facing trial in the case of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, for issuing threats to Paramjit Kaur Khalra’s counsel in the CBI court at Patiala.

Pensioners for early release of DA

The Centre’s decision to hike 3 per cent DA from January 1, 2005, for its employees and pensioners is a welcome step. It will raise the quantum of DA from 14 to 17 per cent of the basic pay pension, according to a press note by the Punjab Govt Pensioners Association.

Defence forces need separate pay commission
IN most other countries there is a separate pay commission for the armed forces because their terms and conditions of service are different from those of the other services. In India, the government has always been turning down the requests of the defence forces for a separate pay commission.
