Ranchi, March 6
Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi has summoned a six-day session of the state Assembly from March 10.
According to a Raj Bhavan communique, the Governor summoned the Assembly as per the recommendation of the Cabinet yesterday under the 174(1) clause of the Constitution.
The decision to advance the Assembly session from March 21 to March 10 was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Governor, which was attended by Chief Minister Shibu Soren, Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi, Chief Secretary P.P. Sharma, DGP S.M. Kaire and Cabinet Secretary Amit Khare, among others, the communique said.
Earlier, the Governor had asked JMM-led UPA Chief Minister Shibu Soren to prove majority in the House on March 21. However, following strong objections by the BJP-led NDA, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had summoned the Governor and after discussions, he returned here yesterday and held a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister. In an emergent Cabinet meeting, a resolution was adopted to hold the Assembly session from March 10, which was sent to the Governor. —
