4,000 stranded on highway
Jammu, February 18
Branches are covered with snow after a heavy snowfall in Srinagar on Friday. Around 4000 passengers were stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway that got blocked last evening when a 30-metre stretch was washed away near Ramsoo due to snowfall and heavy rainfall.

The Election Commission is in the process of summoning the Haryana Chief Secretary to the Capital next week for his failure to comply with the poll panel’s directive to submit a report on the suspension of Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Bhaskar Chatterjee.

Gurgaon, February 18
Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala said today that he would move court against EC decision to prepone counting of votes for Haryana Assembly elections and defended his government’ move of suspending senior IAS officer Bhaskar Chatterjee.

UK opposes veto for India

British Foreign Minister Jack Straw brought a mixed bag of news for India today. On the one hand, during his talks with his Indian counterpart K. Natwar Singh at Hyderabad House, he handed a formal invitation for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend G-8 summit in Gleneagles this July.

Pathankot reels under jaundice

Jaundice has spread in many areas of the town, thanks to the untreated water being supplied by the local municipal council. Cases of water-borne diseases have also been reported from other areas of Pathankot district.
