B.K. Roy goes to Guwahati, at last
Our High Court Correspondent

Chandigarh, February 15
The Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Justice B.K. Roy, left for Patna this morning, but not without leaving behind another controversy.

Chief Justice Roy will first go to Patna, his home town, from where he will travel to Guwahati to take over as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court.

A majority of Judges have been at odds with the Chief Justice throughout last year for various reasons. Even minor issues like a farewell for him turned into an issue between him and most of the Judges and became the talk of the town.

When the High Court Bar Association organised a tea party yesterday evening to bid farewell to the outgoing Chief Justice, only one Judge - Mr Justice Amar Dutt - attended it. All other Judges, nearly 30, abstained from the party.

Earlier, the Chief Justice had declined the invitation of the Judges for the customary dinner that they hold for an outgoing Chief Justice.

The President of India, on the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium, had transferred Chief Justice Roy to Guwahati High Court.

The transfer order, received here on February 4, gave the Chief Justice time till February 21 to take over as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court.
