Compressed air tank explodes

Service station owner killed

One person was killed and another injured when a tank storing compressed air used for cleaning interiors of vehicles exploded in a workshop near Basti Jodhewal police station today.

BSP chief gets bail in defamation case

The state unit chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mr Avtar Singh Karimpuri, was today granted bail by a city court, in a defamation case. The Judicial Magistrate, Mr Sangeet Pal Singh, had passed the orders in a case filed by former SHO of the Sadar Police Station, Joginder Singh.

The police have seized 50 kg of poppy husk and arrested two persons.

Two bodies found
Mandi Gobindgarh, February 14
A post-mortem examination on two bodies was conducted in the local Civil Hospital here today. Two bodies aged between 30 and 40 years were found yesterday at the Focal Point at a plot at Mandi Gobindgarh. Mr D.S. Rana, DSP, Amloh, Mr Surinderpal Singh, DSP (HQ), Fatehgarh Sahib and Mr Harbans Singh, SHO, reached the place of incident.

Following complaint of villagers of five villages near Mullanpur Dakha, District Magistrate, Anurag Verma today directed the Executive Engineer of Punjab Pollution Control Board, (PPCB), to take action against a rice treatment mill in Mandiani village.

Early-sown wheat hit by hailstorm
Ludhiana, February 14
Putting up a strong case for the timely sowing of wheat, scientists at the Punjab Agricultural University, here said that the worst hit during the hail storm of January 27 was the early sown variety only.

Neeraj Rani, a student of M.Sc. Antarpreet wins title in badminton

Antarpreet Singh breezed through Amit Bhasin to win the title in the boys singles (U-10 years) on the penultimate day of the Ludhiana District Sub Junior Badminton Championship being held at the Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Sports Complex here today. In the final, Amit Bhasin failed to match with his opponent, Antarpreet Singh. Antarpreet Singh, student of class V of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, won the verdict quite easily in straight sets 15-2 and 15-4.

280 challaned for not wearing helmets

As many as 280 persons, including some girls, were today challaned at a special naka put up by the city traffic police to check rowdyism on the Valentine Day today. The SP, Traffic, Mr Gurdial Singh, said that the offenders were challaned for helmetless and triple riding. TNS
