Lucknow, February 13
While the tigers are becoming extinct in Sariska and Ranthmbore, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has taken the lead to conserve wildlife in his home district Etawah by setting up the first Lion Safari there.

This announcement was part of governor T.V. Rajeswar's address to both the Houses of the legislature on Thursday.

The 28-page address outlining the priorities of the government included a hospital, equipped with super specialties being set up at Saifai in Etawah district as a satellite institute of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

Officially, however, the address declared the coming financial year as 'Vikas Parv' to accelerate the all round development of the state focusing on agriculture, irrigation, education, power generation and creating employment.

Another special feature of the Budget speech was the announcement of an award in the memory of renowned socialist thinker late Madhy Limaye. 139 memorials would be constructed at different places in the state to perpetuate the memory of leading freedom fighters.

Dwelling upon the law and order problem, the address expressed a resolve not to allow Naxalite terrorism to take root in the state. It also noted that "Naxalism was not a problem related with law and order only, but it had socio-economic aspects", for this, "economic development of Naxal-affected areas had been promised.
