Tenure in Chandigarh ‘enjoyable’

Chandigarh, February 4
The outgoing Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Justice B.K. Roy, today said he was not contemplating resigning to protest his transfer to the Guwahati High Court.

Chief Justice Roy, who received his transfer orders this afternoon, told mediapersons here that he "enjoyed" his tenure in Chandigarh and the Punjab and Haryana High Court would always remain his first love as it was here that he became the Chief Justice.

Chief Justice Roy has been asked to join at Guwahati on or before February 21. He had taken over as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on October 14, 2002.

On being asked if he had any regrets about his tenure in Chandigarh, Chief Justice Roy replied in the negative.

The tenure of Chief Justice Roy was marked by the strained relations between him and majority of the Judges. The differences could not be ironed out. Today, Chief Justice Roy tried to play down the differences and attributed them to perceptions and nothing more.

Asked if he would deliver the Judgments that have been reserved by his Bench, the outgoing Chief Justice said "Attempts will be made to deliver as many judgements as possible".
