Akali MPs meet Kalam, seek probe against Sodhi
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 27
The Shiromani Akali Dal today sought President APJ Abdul Kalam’s intervention for registration of a case involving Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi over alleged payments “received by him from a Pathankot-based businessman.”

A SAD delegation comprising Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Mr Zora Singh Mann, Mr Sukhdev Singh Libra, Ms Paramjit Kaur Gulshan and Mr Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha, all MPs, also urged the President to direct the authorities for registration of a case in the alleged FERA violation controversy involving the son of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. They sought proper inquiry into the controversies.

In a memorandum submitted to the President, SAD said there was an “appalling level of corruption rampant in the state and an abject failure of law and enforcement machinery to initiate action even in cases of proven and established corruption.”

They also referred to “malpractices in the auction of liquor vends in Punjab.”

The Akali Dal leaders said they had earlier represented to the Governor and Vigilance authorities to initiate action but to no avail.
