Orders on room in backyard issued
Chandigarh, January 12
The Chandigarh Administration today issued an order allowing the construction of a room in the rear courtyard of all houses in Chandigarh. The demand to allow balconies projecting out by three feet has, however, been turned down saying these could collapse even in a minor earthquake.

She lost all to tsunami

Mrs Avinash Rani Sagar, a landlady, who lost everything in tsunami that hit the Campbell Bay on the morning of December 26, arrived here with two blankets and a few rupees given to her by a Kolkatta gurdwara.

The president, Mr C.B. Goel, HMT Ancillary Entrepreneurs Association, Panchkula along with R K Bhardwaj, General Secretary, and C.L. Bansal Finance Secretary, handed over the cheque of Rs one lakh for the tsunami victims to DC, Panchkula, Ms Neelam P. Kansi. This amount has been collected from members of the association.

Stolen vehicle recovered from Uttar Pradesh
Chandigarh, January 12
The local police claims to have recovered a Bolero (HR-13-B-0055) belonging to Mr Birmani of Sector 10 which was stolen from the city on January 2. The vehicle was recovered from three persons in Farukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh.

Woman hurt in mishap
Chandigarh, January 12
Nirmala Devi (53), a resident of Dharua village, suffered injuries when an unidentified vehicle hit her near the Housing Board light point in Mani Majra today afternoon. Her arm got fractured in the accident. Her misery did not end there.

Goods, Rs 20,000 stolen
Mohali, January 12
Goods and rupees 20,000 in cash were stolen from a house in Sector 69 here today. The home belongs to Mr Harbhajan Singh an employee of Cooperative Bank of Haryana here.

2 showrooms burgled
Panchkula, January 12
Two showrooms in Sector 12-A here were burgled last night. The thieves broke the locks of the shutters and decamped with goods and cash worth 30,000. They had managed to break the locks of another shop but before they could enter into it a jhuggi-dweller spotted them and they fled from the scene.

Students of Sanatan Dharam College, Sector-32, hand over a box containing relief for tsunami victims to college Principal in Chandigarh on Wednesday. Students of SD College today donated Rs 50,000 for the tsunami victims. A group of 11 students started the campaign on January 8. The college authorities have contributed Rs 2 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Students — Charu, Pinky, Hardeep, Neeraj Hans, Amrit Pal, Harjit, Bir Davinder, Anchal Makkar, Ranbir Singh and Smile Passi, collected the donations.

HC stays proceedings against India Today

Mr Justice Pritam Pal of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed further proceedings in the complaint filed by Mr Mukesh Garg of Jagadhari against the Editor-in-Chief, Publisher and Publishing Director of news magazine India Today.

Remand of Cossets’ MD extended

A court has extended the judicial remand of Managing Director of Cossets Rajiv Dugala and its Director Puneet Nanda till January 24 today. The remand has been extended after an application was filed in this regard by the Ambala police for producing them in the CJM’s Court.

Women artists sell paintings to help tsunami victims
Comprising well-known 13 women painters, a group, ‘We’, has come forward to extend a helping hand in re-habilitating the tsunami-hit people. The painters have organised an exhibition at the Indus Ind Bank art gallery and initially put up their 25 paintings for sale to raise funds in aid of the tsunami victims.
