Consumers can look forward to another
round of rate cuts in telephone tariffs with the Telecom Regulatory
Authority of India (TRAI) today recommending a substantial reduction in
the Access Deficit Charge (ADC) from February 1. The Access Deficit Charge
is a levy imposed upon private telecom operators which is paid to the
state-owned service provider BSNL for funding its operations in rural
areas.

Capt
fears RSS takeover of PU Senate

The Panjab University in Chandigarh
is in the throes of a controversy for allegedly packing its Senate with
RSS activists. Dismayed by the announcement of the new members of the
Panjab University Senate in the media, state Chief Minister Capt
Amarinder Singh has sought expeditious Central intervention in the
matter through Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh.
