Junior Shankaracharya reaches Kanchi Mutt
Kancheepuram, November 16 The junior Shankaracharya, who was performing the “Trikaal puja” left incomplete by his “guru”, had gone on “moun vrata” — (oath of silence) after Jayendra Saraswati’s arrest at Mehboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh on November 11 night. He was not eager to talk to the large number of mediapersons who had come to the mutt. Later, in presence of former Chief Election Commissioner, Mr T.N. Seshan, he said in a choked voice. “I am deeply pained. I ask all devotees to pray to God.” With his return normalcy seems to have returned to the mutt. A large number of devotees had lined up the road leading to the mutt after coming to know about Vijayendra Saraswati’s return to the temple. He arrived in a van of the mutt escorted by an Andhra Pradesh police team and a long cavalcade. Immediately upon his arrival the junior Shankaracharya performed “puja’ after taking the seat of his “guru”. While the devotees were happy with his return, many expressed anger and raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu police for arresting the Shankaracharya on charges of murder of former mutt official Shankararaman, which they believed were “trumped-up charges”. |
