UNIVERSITY: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur said a university would be established to propagate Gurmat. Speaking at a function of noted writer Dalip Kaur Tiwana's felicitation ceremony at Tapa here on Saturday she said the SGPC was making arrangements for the celebration of the third centenary of Mata Gujri and four Sahibzadas at Fatehgarh Sahib.

PROJECT: The University Grants Commission has given a project- Indian Banking Industry: Managing Transformation through Information Technology: challenges and opportunities-to Dr R.K. Uppal, Head, Department of Economics of DAV College Malout. Dr S. Kohli, principal of the college, said the commission had sanctioned Rs 3.61 lakh for the project.

ORDER: Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the IPC on storing, selling and buying crackers. These orders will remain effect till Divali.

Woman dead
: Ms Surjit Kaur of Sidhwan Khurd, a pedestrian was hit by Tata Sumo being driven by Bachittar Singh of Jhhamat P S Sadar Ludhiana and the police has registered a case under Section 279, 304-a IPC on the statement of Jeewan Singh of Sidhwan Khurd as the victim died.

OPIUM SEIZED: Sub Inspector Gulzar Singh in-charge PP Hathur seized 720 gm of opium from Gurdip Singh of Manuke and registered a case under Section 18.61.85 of the NDPS Act at P S Jagraon.

APPOINTED: Two journalists, Surendra Singh Sangwan and Nemi Chand Jain, have been appointed vice-president and executive member of the Haryana Union of Journalists (HUJ), respectively. This was stated by Vijay Sharma, president of the HUJ.

CASE REGISTERED: The Kharkhauda police has registered a case of cheating and fraud against Raju Saini, Sandeep Goyal and Rajiv Mauni of Akbarpur Barota village, including Latika, a senior manager of a mobile phone company, on the complaint of Dr Anil Dahiya. He alleged that he had been duped by them on the pretext of providing jobs to his relatives.

KILLED: A youth, Joginder of Butana village was crushed to death by a tractor at Samata Chowk in Gohana town, about 35 km from here on Saturday night. A case has been registered. In another incident, a factory worker was also crushed to death by a vehicle on the G.T. Road near Kundli village, about 25 km from here. He was returning to his home after the duty.

STOLEN: About one quintal of nickel worth several lakhs of rupees was allegedly stolen from a private company at Kundli village, about 25 km from here, on Saturday. The police has registered a case.

DEAD: A housewife, Umesh Devi, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in her house at Baroda village, about 50 km from here on Saturday. She was issueless and remained upset. This was said to be the cause of taking extreme step. On hearing the news, Bijender, husband of Umesh Devi, also committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance outside the PGIMS at Rohtak.

BURNT: Pankaj (28) son of Krishan of Chhoti Shamshi, was burnt under mysterious circumstances here on Saturday. He was admitted to the Zonal Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. He was alone at the time of the incident.

Kumarhatti
STOLEN: The car of Mr Jatinder Sharma of Sector 4, Parwanoo, was reportedly stolen on the night of October 22. The car, having temporary number (CH-01T-4718), had been parked outside of the house. A case has been registered.
