Ex-Hizb militant among four killed
Srinagar, October 24
Four persons, including a former Hizbul Mujahideen militant, were killed in militancy-related incidents across Jammu and Kashmir since last night, an official spokesman said here today. high-energy physics and was earlier head of the physics and computer sciences departments.

Ex-Hizb militant among four killed

Srinagar, October 24
Four persons, including a former Hizbul Mujahideen militant, were killed in militancy-related incidents across Jammu and Kashmir since last night, an official spokesman said here today.

Gunmen shot dead former Hizb militant and activist of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) Rouf Ahmad Bhat, alias Rouf Rasool, inside his residence at Natipora here, last night.

Bhat was the chief spokesperson for the JKSM, a political party floated by former Hizb commander Zaffar Zbdul Fateh.

The police today recovered the body of Yasmeena Akhtar, who was found hanging from a tree at Kewa in Qazigund area of Anantnag district. She had been missing for the past four days.

Militants shot dead a Gujjar, Mohammad Shafi, inside his house at Arnas in Udhampur district last night, the spokesman said.

Militants barged into the residence of Mira Bakhsh, took him out and shot him dead, the spokesman said, adding that his wife sustained injuries while trying to save her husband.

Security forces apprehended a militant of Harkat-Uljehad-e-Islami (HUJI) from Khojgaon village in Kishtwar area of Doda district and recovered a .303 rifle, a magazine, eight rounds and two hand grenades from his possession, the spokesman said. — PTI

Mangotra nominated to Press Council of India

Jammu, October 24
Dr Lalit Mangotra of Jammu University has been nominated as a member of the Press Council of India.

Dr Mangotra is currently engaged in a research programme of high-energy physics and was earlier head of the physics and computer sciences departments.

He has come to the Press Council of India as a nominee of the Sahitya Akademi. He is prominently engaged in literary and cultural activities here and has widely travelled abroad.

The 28-member Press Council was constituted earlier this month.
