DELEGATION: Guru Nanak Dev University was willing to tie up with various Sikh educational societies based at Singapore to impart Punjabi language, literature, culture and religious studies under the Distance Education mode, Dr S.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, told a 14-member Singapore delegation here on Sunday.

KHAMANO
CHAMPIONSHIP: The 12th District Fencing Championship concluded at Government Senior Secondary School, Khamano. On the last day, the Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, gave away prizes and honoured players. He announced a grant of Rs 11,000 for the school and Rs 11,000 for the district fencing association. The Deputy Commissioner was welcomed by the Principal, Mr Bhag Singh, and the association chairman, Mr J.S. Rana. The SDM, Khamano, Mr Ravinder Kumar, the nagar panchayat president, Mr Harbhinder Singh, the tehsildar, Mr Gurinder Singh Chana, the association president, Dr Sukhdev Singh, Mr Jagdish Modgil, among others, were present.

MEDICAL CAMP: The local Arya Samaj organised a medical check-up camp for senior citizens at the Arya Samaj Mandir here on Sunday. Mr Gian Chand Sareen, a lawyer, inaugurated the camp. Dr Surinder Kumar Narad, former Deputy Director, Health and Family Welfare, examined about 100 patients. Medicines were given free of cost. Mr Amit Sharma, prachar mantri of the samaj, said veteran Arya Samaj leaders, including Ms Sushila Arya, Ms Indumati Gautam, Mr Inder Dev Gautam and Mr Naubat Rai, were honoured for their contribution towards social service.

CAMP: Ms Kusum Verma, Principal, Kamla Nehru College for Women, in a press note here on Sunday said a blood donation camp was organised at the Civil Hospital by the NSS unit of the college.

Bijli sabha: The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) will hold a bijli sabha on October 6 at the 66 KV sub Station in Industrial Area, Phase II, from 9. 30 am to 1. 30 pm. An official press release said that the sabha would be chaired by Superintending Engineer A.V. Ahuja, who will redress the grievances of consumers concerning wrong meter reading, incorrect billing, breakdowns and release of electricity connection.

Honoured: The Vishwa Jagriti Mission organised a function recently to honour the parents of Kargil martyrs- Nirmal Singh and Raj Pal on October 2. Father of Nirmal Singh, Mr Jai Chand, and a relative of Raj Pal- Mrs Santosh Kumari were honoured at a function held at Shiv Dham Ashram on Morni road. A satsang was also held on this occasion.

Dental camp: Over 350 patients were examined at a free dental camp held at BRS Multi Specialty hospital in Sector 11 on October 2. The camp was organised by a team of doctors from BRS Dental College and Hospital, Kot Billa.

Fatehabad
INSPECTED: Ms Chetana Sehrawat, chairperson of the District Red Cross Hospital Welfare Society, inspected beauty parlours, stitching and embroidery centres here on Sunday. These centres are being run by the society for the upliftment of poor and downtrodden women. Ms Sehrawat said an exhibition of centre's works would soon be held. She said those with good performance would be honoured.

DISBANDED: The Ghirai unit of the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP) has been disbanded with immediate effect. Mr Giani Ram Boora, vice-president of the district unit, and Master Ranbir Singh, president of the district backward cell of the HVP, have also been removed from their posts. This was stated by Mr Jagdish Chander Jhajaria, district press secretary of the party, here on Monday.

ELECTED: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Narnaund unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC): president — Mr Nar Singh Bisla; vice-presidents — Mr Manphool Duggal Majra and Mr Krishan Kumar; general secretary — Mr Bhoop Singh; secretaries — Mr Satyawan Lohan and Mr Mukesh Kagsar; and treasurer — Mr Balwan Singh.

RELEASED: A collection of Urdu poems, "Uth! Sher Sandhan", penned by R.P Sethi "Kamaal'' was released at a function organised by Chirag, a front of poets, here on Sunday. Chairman of the Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Dr Chander Trikha was present on the occasion. Another anthology in Urdu by the poet, "Do Harf Adhure Se'', was also released.

NABBED: The district police has arrested Devi Lal, a resident of Banwala village, and Jasvir Singh of Joradrohi village, for illegally possessing a 12 bore pistol and with two live cartridges. Cases under the Arms Act has been registered.
