Bank employees robbed of Rs 14 lakh
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, October 4
In a broad daylight robbery, two employees of Central Cooperative Bank were robbed of Rs 14 lakh by two persons at gun-point outside the bank in Beri town of the district today.

The clerk, Vikram Kumar, along with peon Suresh Kumar were going on foot to their bank located near a government school after withdrawing the cash from another bank, situated nearby. They were not accompanied by a security guard.

The youths snatched the bag containing the money and fled in a Maruti 800 parked about 100 yards from the bank.

The youths drove to an approach road towards Kabulpur village, which leads to Rohtak.

Interestingly, residents around the bank said the car had been parked in the street since morning. Some shopkeepers had objected to it but the youths did not move the car.

The car did not bear any registration plate. After parking the vehicle, the two disappeared. The police station is situated about 200 metres away.

The robbery, which comes close on the heels of another incident in which a filling station employee was robbed of Rs 2.42 lakh in Bahadurgarh last week, has brought the district police on its toes.

SP Mohammad Akil and Beri SHO Ashok Kumar visited the scene to get firsthand information.

The SP said police parties had been dispatched in search of the robbers, adding that they were planning to raid a suspected hideout.

Mr Akil also alleged violation of bank guidelines on carrying cash, as the employees were on foot without proper security arrangements.
