Punjab farmers disrupt
rail traffic Moga, September 24 The district BKU(E) chief, Mr Trilok Singh Himmatpura, and the state unit general secretary, Mr Sukhdev Singh Kokri, were leading the protesters, while KKU leader Devinder Singh Ghali led the protesters at Ghal Kalan. The protesters had erected a tent on the railway track at Ghal Kalan and women members were also sitting on the track. They were demanding free power and water supply, besides 50 per cent subsidy on diesel. He said fertilisers and other chemicals used for agricultural purpose should also be susbsidised. The union leaders demanded bonus on paddy, besides payment of dues to cane farmers with interest. They also demanded immediate buying of paddy and cotton by the government. KKU leaders Nirbhay Singh Dhudike and Devinder Singh Ghali said their government and non-government debt should be waived. Phillaur : Farmers here blocked rail traffic for about three hours on the Amritsar-Delhi line at Phillaur on Friday on a call given by various farmers organisations. Passengers were the worst hit as
they had to wait for hours. The Jammu Tawi-Indore bound Malwa Express was stopped by farmers near Phillaur. Some of them who had to reach Delhi boarded buses from the Phillaur bus stand. Amritsar: Farmers on Friday held a protest rally and halted rail traffic in protest against alleged anti-farmer policies of the state and Central governments. Holding banners and placards, they raised slogans against the governments in this regard. They blocked rail traffic from 1p.m. to 4p.m. near the Amritsar railway station Bathinda: Activists of the BKU (E) on Friday blocked traffic on the Bathinda-Sirsa rail section by staging a dharna near Phulo Mithi village in of the district Mr Hardev Singh, president, BKU (E), Sidhupur group, led the protest. On the call given by three farmers’ organisations farmers on Friday blocked rail traffic for about three hours at the Dhuri railway station, about 14 km from here. A large number of farmers, led by Mr Joginder Singh Ugrahan, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union-Ekta (Ugrahan), gheraoed the office of the SDM at Sunam, 13 km from here, for more than two hours in support of their demands, including shifting of a liquor shop from the Sheron Model Town -1 area and release of some workers of the BKU-Ekta (Ugrahan) who were rounded up last night by the police. The gherao was lifted after 5 pm when the SDM, Mr Ravinder Singh, assured the farmers that the liquor shop would be lifted soon and their rounded-up workers would be let-off immediately.
