Chandigarh, June 17
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, former Union Minister Sukhbans Kaur Bhinder, filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections from Punjab here today. Certain MLAs and other Congress leaders also accompanied her to the state Vidhan Sabha, where she submitted her nomination papers to, Mr Nachhattar Singh Mavi, Secretary of the Vidhan Sabha. However, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was conspicuous by his absence.

Mr H.S. Hanspal, President of the PCC, met her immediately after she filed the nomination papers. Mrs Bhinder has filed the nomination papers for the byelection caused by the death of Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra.

Mrs Bhinder is certain to be elected unopposed as no other candidate has filed the nomination papers for the byelection. In fact, all three candidates— Mrs Bhinder, Mr Rajmohinder Singh Majitha and Mrs Ambika Soni will be elected unanimously.
